Frequently Asked Dentistry Questions

Here at Del Mar Dental Arts, we believe it’s our job to inform and educate our patients in addition to providing hands-on services, because when it comes to oral health, the more someone knows, the healthier they usually are! We’ve gone ahead and answered some of our most popular FAQs below, but if there is anything else you’d like to ask, don’t hesitate to give us a call.

  • What should I do if I have a toothache?

Start by thoroughly cleaning the area around the tooth, because often, minor dental pain can develop due to a piece of food being stuck in-between the teeth. If this doesn’t solve the problem outright, go ahead and give our dental office a call. Even a minor toothache could indicate a serious dental problem, and if you’re in pain, we can schedule a same-day appointment to fix it right away.

  • Can you get rid of this gap between my front teeth?

Yes, this is a very common flaw, and we have a multitude of treatments that can correct it. We offer various dental veneers that can be placed over the teeth to close the space, or we can reshape and build up the enamel with direct bonding. Invisalign can also be used to correct more complicated alignment issues. We can help you decide which would be best when you see us for a consultation.

  • Do teeth whitening kits at the store really work?

If by work you mean “barely whiten the teeth,” then yes. Most are simply too underpowered to provide the results patients want, which is why we always recommend having your teeth whitened by a professional. Here at Del Mar Dental Arts, the bleaching gel we use is much, much more concentrated than anything you’ll find on store shelves, which means it can make your smile six, seven, or even eight shades lighter. Plus, you also have the option to get an in-office treatment with us, which can deliver complete results in under an hour.

  • Should I get a bridge or dental implants to replace my missing tooth/teeth?

This really depends on a number of factors, such as how many teeth you are missing, where they are located, and your budget. In order to achieve the most natural-looking, reliable, and durable results possible, we would highly recommend dental implants. Unlike bridges that just sit on top of the gums, implanted teeth are actually secured using titanium tooth roots placed into the jawbone. We can give you a more definitive answer if you come to see us for a consultation, but whichever one you choose, it’s always a great idea to replace your missing teeth!

  • My gums bleed every time I brush…should I be worried?

This may just be a sign that you’re brushing/flossing with too much pressure or using a brush with hard bristles. Switch to a soft-bristled brush and try cleaning your teeth with a lighter touch for a few days. If the bleeding continues, then you may have periodontal disease. At Del Mar Dental Arts, we can quickly take care of the infection before it causes any significant damage to your smile.
